sunday and monday were heavy duty yard days. we trimmed, we raked, we picked up dead fruit, we mowed, we weedwacked, uhg! it was tiring!! we have about 30 bags of leaves, cut up branches and dead plants, and wood chips out front. One thing we didn’t anticipate from raking up all those dead leaves was that underneath all that, there would be one huge dust bowl in our yard. very loose, very abundant dirt and sand where the dogs ran in, layed in, dug in, rolled around in. and got very very dirty in. It was fun watching them but it was scary to think what they’d do to the inside of the house if we let them in like that. (we really need to lay down new sod to cover that up)
ever try to give a bath to a 65 pound dog that really really doesn’t want to get wet? couple that with getting bit on the face by 400 mosquitos in the process and getting drenched from your thighs down to your sneakers and what do you get? a squeeky clean dog. heehee…
tela was NOT a happy camper on monday night. but DAMn! was she clean and smelling goooood afterwards!
scully and bullet also got their bathes — all three fur balls smell like coconuts.
eep. I didnt tell you about missys bathing situation.
This is how I did it. I got her in a corner between the wall and a door. I put her red collar on… and I put the hose very close to her body…. I dont turn the water on hard, I just turn it on and spray her closely. she likes the scrubbing. I use johnsons and johnsons no more tears and get a good lather. Then I take her wire brush… and brush her while shes soapy and wet. This way you can get all the dead fur off of her and it comes out easier when shes wet. Then rinse her off holding the water closely.
With her, you have to remember she is really timid and very afraid of everything. Shes a puppy mill dog so who knows what happened to her as a pup.
Hope that helps.
If she starts to stink, which she will for a few days after the bath…(oil is coming out) spray her with fabreeze. Thats how I kept her stank ass smellin fresh.
Reply to chinasunflwrNOW she tells me!
:)
well, lemme tell you what I did. I needed to tie her to something but she kept getting out of her collar so I made it tighter around her neck, tied her to a tree, kicked her around a bit, punched her in the head twice… that calmned her down REAL quick..
just kidding! ( i can see it now you’re all pissed off in atlanta wishing you were back home so you could kick my ass) lol don’t worry, we’re a violence free home. ;)
ok, she kept squirming out of her colar (it’s so loose!) so my brother had to go find her a couple times, pick her up off the ground and walk her over to me twice - it was funny… i did make the collar tight so she couldn’t squirm out of it anymore and tied her to a tree with her leash. I think after a little while she realized there’s no way that tree is going to move and no way her neck can get out of that collar. so i started getting her wet and she didn’t try to run away anymore. she just stood there looking miserable while i lathered and scrubbed and rinsed.. she wasn’t all too afraid of the hose and the water, imo. i sprayed it against her fur and also about 6 inches away (not too strong a stream) and she did seem to care how i sprayed her. she just stood there looking miserable. i had to move the collar up and down her neck to get her neck clean tho. so much skin there! so it was battle getting her over to the tree.. and getting her to stay at the tree.. but it was a piece of cake after we tied her there.
i gotta tell you that your dog is not as big of a wuss as you think. one day last week or 10 days ago.. bullet’s only brain wire came loose and he was trying to sink his teath into her.. man, she barked and showed some teeth too.. it was funny. i had to grab bullet and get him out of that mess thinking that they were going to tear eachother other apart.. after i put him back on the ground 1 minute later they were best buddies again. i was amazed to hear your dog bark about 10 times repeatedly like that while showing teeth..
lemme tell you that’s the last time i give a dog a bath outside at dusk. the mosquitos were KILLING ME!.
and another thing!!! i cleaned her ears *thouroughly* the other day — she gave me no battles . she just sat there looking bored. i haven’t tried the nails again yet. figured too much excitement already for one month, right?
she’s finally eating without having to hand feed her… she’s getting the idea that meal time is meal time. so she eats same time as bullet and scully now twice a day. but i think she’s lost some weight and probably because of all the roughhousing and running. maybe time to put her back on regular food?

lol my little tela… so tough. LOL shes a little bad ass. *giggles* I dont think ive heard her bark 10 times in the total time I had her. *giggles*
yea she looks real violated when you bathe her doesnt she? LOL she feels so much better when her fur is clean.. she jumps all over the place and seems peppier…
So things have been working out with boo? I miss her so
I think my other dog is happier or he misses her. I think hes happier htough. she was a constant pest to him. Hes not hiding in closets anymore and behind the nightstand. Even the cat comes out of my bedroom now. I am postitive this was the right choice. No one knows your animals like you do.. if that made sense.
she gives you no ear battles or toe battles?????? that little bitch.. I knew she was doing it to spite me! *giggles*
I agree she can probably go on adult food now. Shes still really young and should get the good fatty acids from adult regular puppy food. I didnt really want her to be on diet….. but I wanted to stop her from getting big before it became a problem. :)
Shes being a good girl I take it? Other than the bathing disaster…
Reply to chinasunflwryes, she’s being very good. she’s not giving any digging problems.. bullet has been the problem digger he’s made about 5 holes already (to lay in them), tela has made zero.
only bad habits that have been problematic and worries me is she gets into the trash. we’re gonna have to hide is somehow..
she’s been getting dirt on our bed tho when we’re not looking heehee… but that’s our fault for 1) not making the bed and 2) leaving the bedroom door open. those dogs got our couches soo dirty we had to steam clean them and cover them in sheets… and they’re learning to stay off those now. i watched scully think about it and put her front paws on it for about 20 minutes before finally jumping up - gave her the scare of her life.. lol.
Reply to Tania (digsite)trash dog!!!!!!!
See… I kept my trash in the garage. For this particular reason. My other dog likes a taste of some good garbage so just by default I kept the trash in the garbage… bad tela.
she loves the bed. That is my fault. When she was a baby thats how I kept her safe was on the bed. She was too afraid to go to the edges so she laid onthe bed all day until I got home. The once she got enough guts to jump off I crate trained her.
Have you left her alone yet?
