trees and shit

the tree people came yesterday and it took them about 5 hours to get thru everything. I recounted and it’s 21 trees.. not 20 lol. They cut a lot out of thse trees. made them look a lot cleaner without butchering them or making them any different than the neighbor’s trees.. I’m glad that’s over. the only ones that look strange still are the gumbomumbo tree and the startfruit trees. gumbomumbo is recooperating from the last time it got chopped. it looks half dead but you can see millions of little buds where the leaves are growing back. and the startfruit tree had a lot cut from it but not perfect. i didn’t want it cut too much so as not to stress. so next spring i’ll call them back out just for that one. now the next step is to do sod shopping. Not sure how to do that. i guess i’ll just open up the phone book and start making calls.

anyways. this weekend was a pretty lazy weekend. we saw a handful of rented movies and movies on hbo like “adaptation” (weird one but good), and the last samurai (also good) and some other one i can’t remember…. 28 days later on hbo, the ring (again), i wanted to see helter skelter on cbs but i missed it. we had a bbq to break in our new grill and patio furniture. It’s really nice to have a place to sit and lounge out there except that now is when the hot weather is starting. 2 months ago the weather out there was perfect…

today they’re supposed to install the dish washer. MAN i’m gonna be so happy to finally stop arguing w/ dennis about who’s not doing dishes and who’s leaving dishes everywhere. (sad to say i’m usually the lazy one in that department) weeeeee!!!!

ugh..

omg, i’ve eaten far far too much for lunch.. this feels.. not so good. bleh… :(
i haven’t talked about my yard in a while.. lol the work continues to move forward. tree pruner dude wasn’t able to make it last monday so he rescheduled for this coming monday.

I’d like to have all that finally complete before next weekend rolls around. We’re aiming to resod on the 23rd. if I can locate the sod fast enough. now that a month has passed since i cleaned out every last weed, they are coming back full force. so i need to clean it up again but shouldn’t be as hard since these are small in comparison to what was there before.

We added a new sprinkler head and moved a second one.

our new patio set should be getting delivered tomorrow. FINALLY! a place for us to sit down outside!!!!!

I’m still standing…

..but for how long? ugh. I just hate rumours. I really do. I’ve begun to learn how to dismiss certain ones because what good would they do anyway? but…. they still bother me from time to time.

well, is it business as usual? I wonder what something like this does to people’s work ethic. Do you work harder cuz you’re afraid that you might be targetted next? or do you say “fucket” and slack off every day from now on cuz it just don’t matter what you do anyway. It’s all about money and “restructuring” and you’re gonna get axed if you’re gonna get axed no matter what you do. You’re damned if you don’t and you damed if you do so… what does it matter?

I guess I’ll just be happy that I have a paycheck next month and worry about getting layed off if it does actually happen.

It’s hard not to be so grim about things. People say sysops won’t be touched cuz they can’t get rid of us. we run the servers afterall. And they’d have to fire the new guy before they got rid of anybody else but I dunno really if that’s so true. :( they could just decide to cut us by half in one sweep. I’m having EDS flashbacks. Same thing happened when i was working for them. wave after wave after wave after wave of layoffs and I just didn’t care anymore. I stopped working. I’d go there and just sit and do whatever the hell I wanted and chatted with people all day and I left work and hour early every day… a couple months later I was in the next wave of layoffs. but you know what? I was sooo happy that day I was axed. so so so so happy. my two unemployed months after that were the happiest times of my life. I had a lot of fun. I had 3 months severence and had 2 paychecks that third month. It was like christmas for me.

But if it did happen this time it wouldn’t be that way again. I’ve got too many new responsibilities now. a mortgage, a baby. Too many more bills to pay. It’s not like I could just sell everything and go crash at my grandmothers if it came down to it. Man, yesterday I said I wasn’t scared. But I guess I was lying to myself cuz it turns out I really am scared! :(
crap!

oh, i almost forgot.. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MIKE () !! I’m sure you’re happy you got out when you did. :/

bracing myself….

beautiful day for a funeral today, eh? several nt admins are dressed accordingly and i think that’s hilarious. I’ve been layed off before so i’m not so scared of it (although I don’t think that will happen anytime soon I HOPE) but I’m only scared because of mortgage payments and having to provide for kid now. ugh! daycare costs are hidious.

good luck to everyone who is getting the axe. I wish things were different because so many don’t deserve it but .. i guess it’s just a money game.
