Been a While!

man, this past week and a half has been so nutty I totally forgot about LJ!

Where do I start? Well, I’m in organized heaven (well, working to get there anyway) Our kitchen never looked better, the living room is waaay better but still have the issue of J’s toys all over the place. The last 5 days have been dedicated to filing (or refiling) all our paperwork (statements, bills, crap). I’ve shreaded 3 whole garbage bags worth of paper JUNK. I even had old college programming assignments I had been keeping for who knows what reason. I guess I was too attached to my programs. .. as some gramatically challenged folks say .. “not no mo!” they’re all gone. But I think the shredding has almost fried my paper shredder. it was smoking up the house last night with this terrible burnt oil stench. yuck! I think it’s time for a new one and I want one that shreds cd’s too. that would be cool.

I’m still not done but if I put my mind to it now that J’s in bed I should be able to finish that off tonight.

In Vertigo world, I’m proud to say that i indirectly caused the meltdown of 390+ servers although not all actually melted down but still…. I major catastrophy by every day standards. LOL! I made a VALID config change to our monitoring system. nothing wrong with it at all. But then a bug in the code caused MAJOR havoc and the daemon went totally nutso. After a few hours / days of clean up. (well, it’s still not cleaned totally but anyway… ) I realize what a blessing this actually is. For more than a couple years we’ve struggled with this POS and waited and waited for fixes.. but now that there’s a humongous spotlight on it, things are actually getting fixed. my god! at least all the stress wasn’t in vain.

I have a great metaphor for what happened.
I pushed the button on the vending machine because I wanted a coke. But instead it launched a missile. heh.. well,i thought it was funny anyway..

In other news, I’m contemplating joining the 2005 discovery health national body challenge. I flopped at last years, so i’m not sure i wanna set myself up for failure again this year. so… not sure yet. I visited bally’s tonight to check out the day care. The one at LA fitness really scares me because all I could see when I looked at it was all the different ways J could get her head cracked open. And it’s right by the front door whcih REALLY scares me because it’s just too easy for someone to walk out with her. bally’s is cheaper for me too even if it is farther away.

$115/year vs. $35/month. …uh… yeah. I think i’ll stick with the former. :-D
