Dream: Visitation Rights and Godzilla

I don’t normally have this many dreams in a row that I think are worth writing down. I had one 2 nights ago that was just a bunch of disjointed images. I still want to blog them, but I don’t like having them in my main page. sigh.. My next blog mission will need to be to figure out how to separate categories.

Anyway, here goes.

I’m a man going through a divorce and at the mercy of my soon to be ex-wife, and her soon to be new husband, where my son is concerned. I want to see my kid and she and her new man are making it very difficult for me.

I’m at their house begging and pleading to let me see my son more often than just once a week. I want to get him 3 days per week and am very afraid that they won’t give me that privilege. Somehow it’s up to them to give me the days of visitation, not the courts. I feel like a very small person for having to beg but this is my kid and I would do anything for him.

Next I’m outside their home returning on a different day and I knock on their door. Nobody answers but I hear the kids inside. My son and their little daughter. My son is six, their daughter is two. I push the door open and see that nobody is home but the kids. They call out for me and ask me for something… like a glass of water or something like that. I go to their room. Sit on their bed for a minute and get them a glass of water from the adjoining bathroom. As I’m walking back towards their bed, my ex and her man arrive.

Suddenly I’m a woman, he’s my ex and she’s the new woman. She’s shocked and obviously apalled that I’m there and tells me to get out. I try to explain how I ended up in their room but she didn’t want to hear it. She just wanted me out. She proceeded to attend to the kids and tuck them in and I walk out of their room. Now I’m in the hallway pleading with my ex to let me have more visitation with our son. I’m getting desperate and feeling like I’m going to lose the battle here. He and she come out and tell me that now they are going to take away all of my rights and I’ll never get to see my son again.

This is where the dream takes a sudden, unexpected turn.

Suddenly the city we’re living in is in crisis. Godzilla is running rampant and trying to eat as many of us humans as he can. He’s hungry, he’s angry, and we have to run. My ex, his wife, and our two kids run out of the house as godzilla tears up the street. We make it into this 10 to 15 story steal building and run up the stairs to approximately the fourth floor and we find a group of kids about 8-12 years old huddled together in what looks like an empty auditorium. We tell them to come with us and we run to another part of the building.

We are sitting a few feet away from the windows and I look to see where godzilla is. He is several blocks away. We’re all very frightened. My ex’s new wife especially. Now she’s his wife and I’m ex-wife. All my previous thoughts and worries for visitation are gone. I’m only concerned with getting us all through this crisis alive.

I turn back to the group and tell them that we need to be very quiet or godzilla will be alerted there are people here and come to destroy the building. One boy is being very noisy and acting like the class clown.

Me: “Hey, please be quiet. Godzilla will hear you.”

Boy:Dismissed that I was even talking and kept on with his antics.

Me: “If you won’t be quiet, godzilla will come and try to eat us”.

Boy: “Why are you telling me to stop?”

Me: “Because I’m trying to save your life”

Boy: “But you already saved my life”

Me: “Then let me save it again”

At this point he realized that I wasn’t kidding and he looked afraid and embarrassed. He stopped and sat down.

I turn my attention back to the windows. Godzilla is closer but other buildings are keeping him busy and away from our building. I tell the kids that he’s closer and we really need to be quiet now.

We move to a different part of the building again. A higher floor. Now we’re in an area that looks more like a lounge with bedrooms. The group stays in a room away from windows and I go into a long and narrow room with windows lined up on one side so I can keep watch.

I’m sitting on the floor facing these windows and I think a cousin or two of mine are on either side of me. We start talking about getting ready for a night out clubbing and I think we even start to get ready when I look up and godzilla has pressed one of his gigantic eyes up against the windows. He sees us. Something was telling me to stay put and not move a muscle but one of my cousins was already moving when he looked so I knew he saw us. I get up and start to run and godzilla starts to smash the windows in.

I run towards the rest of the group and yell out that godzilla knows we’re there. He starts smashing the building and we start making our way down through the stair wells.

A few floors closer to ground and godzilla stops beating the buildingI think we’re safe but I feel the need to move down further. The group follows me. We make it to a dead end in the stair well and find an elevator there. Not all of us can fit in it so I go in with my son and my ex’s daughter. As the elevator descends I realize that getting in it was a big mistake. But it’s too late to stop the elevator. It’s noisy and there’s no where to escape if godzilla starts to attack us again. To my horror, the elevator drops us into open garage under the building but it is an open air garage on the ground floor. The kids and I are completely vulnerable to godzilla now. He sees us.

This is where the dream ends.

I woke up with a pretty uneasy feeling as you can imagine and had trouble getting back to sleep. I started playing out what might have happened next. I think I was still more asleep than I thought because the scenes as if in a dream. But I know I didnt’ dream them.

Scenario #1. Godzilla sees us, I hit the emergency button to stop the elevator but he smashes it anyway and we’re doomed.

Scenario #2. Godzilla is quiet, we think we’re home free and despite feeling conflicted over leaving the rest of the group behind, I try to run to the next building but he’s right over us so he swoops his long neck down and the kids and I get separated. The little girl runs out in the open and looks up. Godzilla sees her. I leave my son where he is and run after her. I grab her and start running.

Scenario #3. We get off the elevator, godzilla sees us and I stay close to the building we were at. He starts smashing the walls around us and we’re doomed.

After playing these out I had to shake it off but I was worried about my youngest daughter so I got up to check on her. I still check if she’s breathing when she’s asleep.

I have no clue where this dream came from. I didn’t watch anything related to visitation, divorce, or godzilla and didnt’ think about it either.

I went back to sleep and had another dream about visitation rights and divorce. It slips my mind at the moment but I’m going to try to remember it.

I thought I was the only one that had dreams like that. A therapist would have a field day. I try not to over-analyze and just look at any big themes that are popping out at me

    good idea. big themes… hmm..

Perhaps I’m afraid my husband will leave me and take the kids with him. Maybe godzilla represents and woman I’m subconciously afraid he will leave me for. Some rabid, child eating, she-bitch of a woman. lol!!
